Hojicha Tea, Roasted green Tea, Low caffeine, JAS Certified Organic, Japanese Tea, 150g Bag
HOJICHA ROASTED GREEN TEA - It is one kind of Japanese green tea. However, it is different from other types of green tea as we use traditional roasting methods to roast the tea leaves. When the tea leaves are roasted, the bitterness is removed and the Hojicha takes on a nice earthy, toasty scent and an attractive reddish-brown color.
WHAT IS HOJICHA ?
Hojicha is a roasted Japanese green tea that originated in Kyoto. We carefully selected the tea leaves of Sencha, Bancha and Kukicha. The tea leaves are roasted over high heat to bring out the unique aroma.
In the Meiji period, there was a tea merchant who tried to have an experiment to make the most of the leftovers of various parts of the tea plant. The tea merchant roasted the leaves, stems, and twigs by roasting them over charcoal. Since then, Japan began Hojicha roasting green tea and this resulted in a new business opportunity. People, especially the tea drinkers in that period, loved Hojicha because of its pleasant smoky aroma and mild flavor.
TRADITIONAL ROASTING METHOD
We carefully selected the tea leaves of Sencha, Bancha and Kukicha. The process of roasting tea leaves produces Pyrazine so it creates a distinctive pleasant roasting aroma. It also reduces the astringency of the tea with a smooth taste that is easy-to-drink. The roasting process does not affect the tea’s health benefits but instead burns away bitterness and caffeine. It is wonderful to drink after meals or in the evening and it can be safely consumed by babies, children and pregnant women.

Japanese organic green tea is very valuable as it accounts for only 4% of the total tea production in Japan.
I recently started drinking hojicha and wanted to try the powder and the leaves to see what I prefer. Hojicha powder is definitely the winner. As a coffee drinker, I enjoy intense flavor and the powder offers that smoky bitter flavor I love. The leaves are much weaker. I even tried adding several more Tbsp to make it stronger, but it’s just not the same. This is a good option for people who are sensitive to caffeine. Hojicha is low in caffeine to begin with, but the leaves are an even better option for people who really want to watch their caffeine intake.
